My name is Erika and I was born in September of 1982. I grew up on the north shore of Lake Tahoe and was never short of outdoor activities to keep me occupied and always on the go. In the summer, there was waterskiing and swimming and hiking. In the winter, there was snowskiing and sledding (and shoveling). My upbringing gave me a tremendous love of the outdoors, and on any given day, you can find me outside hiking or running or just playing in the backyard with my son. Currently, I live in Reno, NV which thankfully has over 300 days of sunshine a year (a very nice perk for me since it limits my “rainy days”)… if only we could do something about the wind.
I got married to the love of my life on August 5, 2006 and our son was born on August 17, 2010 (I guess we like August!). I started running in spring of 2011 because I gained a lot of weight when I got pregnant (that’s putting it nicely – I was pushing 200 lbs on my 5′ 6″ frame) and after I had my son, a lot of that weight decided to just overstay its welcome despite how nicely I asked it to leave. Running helped me get back to my pre-pregnancy weight, and I’ve continued to run because it offers me a clarity and serenity unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I suppose you could say that running, for me, is very zen.
In addition to raising a toddler and a husband, I work part time and attend school full time at the University of Nevada, Reno to earn my Bachelors in Accounting. In my free time, I love to read, run, play with my son, and kick back and relax in the toasty desert sun.
